Glasgow Wood Recycling shortlisted for National Recycling Award

We are delighted to announce that Glasgow Wood Recycling has been shortlisted as a finalist in the MRW National Recycling Awards 2019.

They have been selected as a finalist in the Waste Reduction Initiative – Public/Third Sector category after being nominated by DSL Business Finance. These awards bring together recycling enterprises from across the country to recognise and celebrate best practice and innovation.

Glasgow Wood Recycling’s Chief Executive Peter Lavelle said:

“It means a lot to our social enterprise to be recognised at a national level and it helps acknowledge the huge amount of commitment our volunteers and staff put into the model of community wood recycling. We thank the awards panel for their appreciation of this effort”

Glasgow Wood Recycling are on a mission to save wood from landfill and find meaningful ways to reuse and recycle waste wood – transforming this valuable resource into quality garden and indoor furniture. They place people at the heart of what they do by providing a wide range of volunteering and training opportunities.

John, a volunteer in their workshop, said of working at GWR:

‘When I retired from nursing I was looking for an interesting volunteering opportunity. At Glasgow Wood Recycling, I get the opportunity to use all sorts of things – tools and equipment – that I wouldn’t get anywhere else. I’ve learned a lot when I think about it; building things – how to go about it – structuring things, learning to read diagrams. It’s learning new skills and it gives me the confidence to do things for myself.

I’ve built all kinds of different pieces, from tables, to garden furniture and planters – and the sense of achievement when you complete something is always great.’

The MRW National Recycling Awards 2019 takes place on Thursday 27 June at the London Hilton on Park Lane. You can find out more here: https://nra.mrw.co.uk/shortlist-2019
