Wates Group have been leading the way in developing links between the construction industry and social enterprise, and we very much value the support they have given us at Community Wood Recycling.  They have now been recognised for this work with the award of The Queens Award for Enterprise, Sustainable Development.

HRH The Princess Royal presented the company with the Award at a reception at their newly-refurbished, state-of-the-art Leatherhead-based headquarters, and Community Wood Recycling MD Richard Mehmed was there to represent the social enterprise sector and present Her Royal Highness with a collection of Christmas decorations made by Humber Wood Recycling and Brighton and Hove Wood Recycling from waste wood collected from Wates’ sites.

Andrew Davies, CEO of Wates, welcomed Her Royal Highness and said:

“Wates has a long history of supporting society and the communities in which we work. The tireless efforts of our people who uphold our values of integrity, intelligence, teamwork, performance and respect are all reflected in receiving the prestigious Queens Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.  We are immensely proud of this award and we thank you all.”

Richard Mehmed said:

“Support from Wates for Community Wood Recycling is making a real difference up and down the country by allowing us to create the opportunities that change peoples’ lives, and preventing valuable resources from going to waste.”
