Suggested steps to starting a wood recycling project


The steps below are not necessarily consecutive or definitive, but are useful as a guide to general direction. Steps 6 to 9 usually take the longest. NCWRP can help with all steps.

1. Contact the NCWRP

2. Fully understand the business model

3. Consider questions in Personal Checklist

4. Visit the B&HWRP (through the NCWRP please)

5. Engage with prospective partners ( ie. local Council; local builders; other potential collection clients, local new deal provider ;other local potential sources of labour; CRN; potential funders; existing local social enterprises/community groups; other wood recycling projects

6. Carry out Feasibility Study

7. Develop Business Plan

8. Produce three - year budget

9. Raise Start-Up funding

10. Re-engage prospective partners

11. Plan launch strategy

12. Establish disposal route for Grade 3 and Residue

13. Engage prospective customers

14. Find suitable premises

15. Obtain suitable vehicle

16. Engage workforce

17. Launch
